Age of Offense

This is a poem I wrote about how offended people get about the smallest things. I wish more people would live by the wisdom of the great philosophers Bill and Ted when they said “Be excellent to each other.” And, “Party on, dudes!”

You’re offended that I’m offended by your

Twisted sense of reality.

I’m offended that you’re offended by my

Pristine logic – let me be!

And who do you think you are, to disagree with me?

I’ll have you know, I hold the truth of all reality.

For we have left the Age of Faith

And we’ve disowned the Age of Knowledge

We’ve been swirling through the aether,

Struck the wall of self-made bondage.

Science becomes make-believe

And no longer makes sense.

For we cling to our own deceit

And suffer the Age of Offense.

Offense now roams the once-safe airwaves

News seeks but to entertain.

Truth is everyone’s opinion,

Standards now mean not a thing.

Everyone is right except

Those whose views are not your own.

Everybody reigns as king.

Everybody seats a throne.

For we have left the Age of Faith

And we’ve disowned the Age of Knowledge

We’ve been swirling through the aether,

Struck the wall of self-made bondage.

Science becomes make-believe

And no longer makes sense.

For we cling to our own deceit

And suffer the Age of Offense.

And if you mock, you make my point.

And if you nod your head

Then you are letting others rule you,

Disagree instead!

For these days are oblivion

And chaos and disdain

Now mark my words, for if you don’t

Then you’ll become insane.

A new age needs to overcome

And cast this cursed one down.

If not, we will not get along,

Destroying others’ crowns.

But ’til that day, when sanity

Is born in innocence,

We’ll curse and scream and make each other

Bleed in the Age of Offense.
