Alexander Vaillencourt Writing Update

From Alexander’s Desk – 1/15/2022

Welcome back everybody. Today’s blog post will be a status update on my writing for the past week. This second week of 2022 saw a continuation of writing for me, although not as much as I had hoped. The daily habits I had started last week have all but fizzled out this week, but I haven’t given up on them. There is still lots of room for improvement, and hopefully this next week will be a return to the habits.

The Renegade Ocarinist

For The Renegade Ocarinist, I only added 1,098 words this week. I mean, at least it’s something, and it’s progress. But far less than I had planned on writing. Mia is still in Ithlear, and is trying to understand why she needed to go there. She meets an old acquaintance, makes a new friend, and sets out for one of my favorite places in the city!

Related News

In related news, I wrote the beginning to a new piece for the side project I mentioned last week. While I had hoped to write three, I only produced half. But I did come up with some more fleshing out of Ansparia because of it, so that’s good.

I also wrote a piece related to the lore of Ansparia as a blog post entitled, Races in the World of Ansparia (part 1), in which the historian, Reilikar Dromespore, gives a brief overview of what are known as the Civilized Races of Ansparia. I’m sure he’ll talk in greater detail about each race one day, but until then this should be an introduction.

Unrelated News

In news unrelated to writing, my wife celebrated a milestone birthday this week! I won’t say if she turned 21 or 30 or… well, it’s a milestone, let’s leave it at that. I worked on my Twitter presence and had noted that I wanted to reach 100 by the end of the week. I’m happy to say that I ended the week with 107 followers, and am enjoying the engagement with several other people I’ve met there. I also returned to the root inspiration for The Renegade Ocarinist, by listening to Lindsey Stirling at work. This video was the light bulb that turned on and brought about the novel’s main character (and made me purchase an ocarina of my own to learn, which I have not yet done, haha)!

This Week's Goals

Although I didn’t reach my writing goal this week, my goal for next week is once again 5,000 words for The Renegade Ocarinist. I also still plan on completing three more pieces for my side project. Tomorrow I’ll add a new excerpt from the novel, and on Wednesday I’ll create a new lore blog post, most likely an overview of the races part 2, focusing on the Uncivilized Races. As for Twitter, I’d like to reach 150 followers by the end of the week. And I’d like to write one more poem, unrelated to the novel.

Until next week, stay safe and enjoy life!
~Alexander
